Week 6 Post 1

Post reach is how many and whom saw your post. Post engagement is how many and whom responded to or interacted with it. It is important to know the difference because someone may have been reached by your post without really noticing it, appreciating it, or remembering it. You may have reached someone who is way outside of your target market. You could be spending effort to reach people who aren't ever going to engage, instead of concentrating on those who are. Meanwhile, those who engaged with your message could be in a demographic that you didn't even realize was a potential market!

A business could use Facebook analytics to find out who was responding to their messages and either try another method if they aren't reaching their target market, or add momentum to what seems to be working. They could also observe whether or not their message was even reaching the correct people in the first place, or only an entirely irrelevant audience. Basically, businesses can tweak their strategies based on feedback they receive from Facebook and thus engage with followers more thoughtfully and with more impact, and avoid spending time and effort on the wrong crowd.
